We all went to Brighton on the train. It took about two hours, but as usual it went quickly with views and conversation.
The pier was of course the first port of call, and it did not disappoint. It's just as tacky in a quaint king of way as it always appears to be in the movies - well to me anyway. We walked right along and soaked up the atmosphere. Neil and Lynda went on the roller coaster while I supervised (as per usual) and we had haddock, chips and mushy peas for lunch. Actually Lynda passed on the peas, so to speak - she will never resort to that, despite being married to a Pom.
Next stop was The Lanes, which we had seen on the telly a couple of nights before. Very trendy, gay friendly and not at all what Iexpected in Brighton. Lots of upmarket shops and cafes.
The third aspect of Brighton which surprised me was the off-beat music culture, which seems to be based on largely alternative music.
There is also a cultural area with an art deco style pavilion in the centre.
So all in all a town with many aspects. Oh, and we did buy Brighton Rock to take home to Oz.
