After breakfast we headed off with Grant, Jennie, their two boys and Jennie's Mum to the beach at Whitby. It was a perfect beach day, and great to see first hand an English beach scene complete with multi-coloured huts (500 pounds to rent for a summer!). Jennie's brother and his family were there too, which was nice.
We did a tour of the area, looking out over the bay where Captain Cook sailed in, really pretty, before heading via Goathead where they made the Heartbeat series, to Bolton, near Manchester. Grant and Jennie have lived there for a couple of years, moving up from Devon where they taught and ran the school boarding house. Grant is now head of Maths and Jennie teaches students with learning difficulties. They all seem really happy there, and their house has a nice view over Bolton. It's only a couple of hours from Jennie's family in Loftus as well.
After a Chinese takeaway and a few drinks we retired for the night - me with an English sunburn!
